Fallout fellout for a bit, Alex Smash with Prototype

So, after a couple of hours in fallout yesterday, I realised after so much shooty shooty I needed to smash some stuff up. Dark Souls is normally my go to, but I cannot play anything I've already finished, for now, and I've finished Dark Souls a few times, well, more than a few. So to satiate my need to beat stuff up, I realised I had Prototype in my Steam backlog, that'll scratch that itch. Note better than a bit of nostalgic trip to back when I first got my xbox360, man I enjoyed this game the first time round. And it did scratch that itch. Prototype is now Prototyped and while that final 1:30 second phase 2 of the final boss is bloody criminal, I think I'm ready to go back to fallout... tomorrow. For tonight, I chill out with a cold drink and watch some of the YouTube. Not sure if it's a Linux/proton thing, but the lighting effects often shone through solid objects, in fact many objects seemed s...

Deus Ex(ited). I need a break. Time to meet Dr Langeskov, the Tiger and the Terribly Cursed Emerald

So i needed a bit of a break from Deus Ex Mankind Divided. I think I was having stealth fatigue and just needed something fun to play so I ended up playing Dr Langeskov, the Tiger and the Terribly Cursed Emerald. This thing is basically a toe dip into The Stanley Parable and quite fun. The entire game takes between 15 and 30 minutes per playthrough, so getting all the cheevos means you could be going at this for about 3 hours. It works well on Linux/proton but has a memory bug which will stop it recognising cheevos, so I recommend shutting down the game and restarting it inbetween runs. I also started Isle Of Jura, which i will continue later.

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided. I am a man divided.

Also, Mankind Divided is now no longer Divided from its franchise brothers, done and done. I enjoyed the game, but after 4 weeks of DX, I needed a few days off for something else. Also, as with Human Revolution, I will probably come back to this at some point and finish off the other cheevos. Although I did prefer DXHR. If I'm honest, I think my favourite in the series is Invisible War, but possibly because I was not constrained by trying to achieve the pacifist/fox hound type cheevos. I imagine HR could be awesome if I can play around with different approaches to different situations. So, now we are into true retro. Believe or not, while I have sunk many hours into the isometric Fallout games before getting my hands on them on Steam, I never managed to finish it. So, next on the list is Fallout, A Post Nuclear Role Playing Game. Yep, full title, lets smash this.

Deus Ex: The Fall. And how far they have fallen.

Deus Ex The Fall has fallen, and it's 12 hours I will never get back. Invisible War and Human Revolution were both an improvement on their respective predecessors in many ways, but The Fall fell well short of all of them. Yes it was part 1 of an planned episodic series aimed mainly at mobile devices but wow, it's not hard to see why there was only 1 episode. The main problems were not any technical limitations imposed on the target devices. From the offset the voice acting is terrible, the animation during dialogue was atrocious, and it would not be so much of a problem (previous entires have been a bit meh, but not this bad), but you also have to spend most of the first 30 minutes listening to so much it cannot be ignored. I mean, why does Ben have to spell out the entire back story in dialogue, then we play the related memory sequence, with even more terribly delivered exposition. The only saving grace o...

Deus Ex: Human Revolution... viva la revolution

Deus Ex Human Revolution done and done. I decided to try for as many cheevos as possible, and this was not the best experience. I went for easy to try and knock out as many as possible. I got everything apart from... the books, which I accepted I'd missed out on about a quarter into the game, and decided to do that one when I could explore more in NG+. the no alerts cheevo, which i was convinced I had done, until I got to the end and it didn't pop. This has put me off doing another run in hard mode as I was expecting the only requirements for that run to be the books, but with needing to avoid any alarms again, I am accepting the fact that I am not going to 100% this one. I may do a hard playthrough again after all this is over as I quite enjoyed the game, but let's carry on with the task at hand. Time for Deus Ex the fall next.
